INSTRUCTORS

Professor Drew Allen

BJJ, Combatives Instructor, and Head Instructor of Studio
Drew Allen began his martial arts journey in 2010 overweight and in poor physical condition. Drew was originally drawn to Krav Maga as a means to become healthier and learn a useful skill. It did not take long for him to realize the transformative impact martial arts could have in a practitioner’s life.

In 2013, Drew expanded his training regimen to include Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, originally to broaden his knowledge and incorporate grappling into his skill sets. However, it did not take long for him to fall in love with the technical aspects of BJJ and its overall complexity, in addition to the great physical workout.

As an instructor, Drew believes that martial arts should be practical and should develop students to be safer, self-reliant, and more confident. Whether training for a competition or as a means of self-defense, his style of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is rooted in a principled approach to the fundamentals of the art.

Outside of the studio, Drew is the proud father of two and a dedicated husband to Denise. He enjoys watching his children play sports and perform music, and most of all, he loves getting to share the mats with them.

Professor Augusta Owens

BJJ Instructor
With over a decade of military service across various parts of the world, Augusta experienced a wide range of cultures and sought out a disciplined outlet to stay mentally sharp. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu became a natural choice, offering not just physical training but a mental challenge that felt like playing 3D chess. Augusta's prior experience in Army combatives and boxing laid the groundwork for an easy transition into the world of Jiu Jitsu. However, after sustaining a traumatic brain injury in 2016, what began as a pastime evolved into a crucial part of Augusta’s recovery process, serving as both physical and mental therapy.

Despite being introverted by nature, Augusta discovered a passion for teaching as a Brown Belt, which was a surprising and fulfilling development. Augusta’s teaching philosophy centers on respect, grace, and discipline, with a strong emphasis on mastering the fundamentals. The experience of helping students put the pieces together on the mat ignited a deep passion for teaching, transforming Jiu Jitsu from a personal journey of growth and healing into one of Augusta’s greatest life passions and callings.

Professor Richard Webber

BJJ Instructor
Since beginning my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey in 2006, I have dedicated myself to mastering and sharing the art of BJJ. As a black belt with nearly two decades of experience, I bring a deep understanding of the sport.

My approach to teaching is centered on providing the most advanced techniques, tailored to fit the unique goals and needs of each student. I am committed to exploring and implementing the most effective learning methods, whether through detailed technical descriptions, focused drilling, or dynamic sparring sessions.

BJJ is more than just a sport for me; it’s a way to connect with others, including continuing a cherished tradition of training with my father, who introduced me to BJJ through the early UFC events. This sense of community is something I strive to foster in all my classes, extending beyond the mats through social events and friendships I have made over the years.

Outside of the gym, I enjoy playing guitar and spending quality time with my wife and family. These personal interests and my passion for BJJ inform my holistic approach to teaching, where I encourage my students not only to learn but also to grow as individuals.

I look forward to sharing my love for Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with you and helping you achieve your martial arts goals.

Professor Nancy Murphy Bowles

BJJ Instructor and Lead Instructor of Women’s Only Program
Nancy began training in jiu jitsu at the age of 46 after a friend kept insisting she tried a class. After about a month she fell in love and jumped into training. After becoming an IBJJF world champion at brown belt she was awarded her black belt at the age of 53. She is a mom of three grown boys and also a grandmother. She has been married for over 30 years to Jason who is a judo black belt and a BJJ black belt. Nancy’s goal is to encourage all women to train in jiu jitsu regardless of age or athletic ability.

Quentin Peltzer

Combatives Coach
Quentin started his martial arts journey as a young child learning from his father, a former college wrestler. Later in life he branched out and began training Krav Maga, a self-defense style that primarily involves striking, starting in the summer of 2019. Since then he has become a certified instructor and has learned other forms of fighting including American Boxing, Muay Thai, and thanks to Drew Allen, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Quentin is dedicated to giving his students professional and applicable training with a focus on effective, powerful, strikes. Outside of the studio, he provides self-defense and fitness training to those who need it.

Shane Rusk

Combatives Coach
I am a fitness enthusiast who loves challenging myself both physically and mentally. I have always been this way. Then, at 4 years old, I fell in love. And, her name was - Karate. The very first class I took I watched a Black Belt break boards and bend metal with kicks. I was hooked. I knew I wanted to be able to handle myself. To be more than capable of things in all situations. It was powerful to watch a man be able to do the things he was doing at such a young age. He looked strong, felt confident, aggressive; but at the same time one of the kindest men you could meet. That is why I love martial arts. Because of the confidence it builds, the character, the fortitude, but most of all the RESPECT. Through being confident in situations you learn to respect others and earn their respect. “Every man should be capable of violence. Otherwise, he is harmless, and if he is harmless there is no virtue in keeping peace. The virtue is being capable of great harm, yet restrained and in control of it.” Please respect each other and help one another grow here. We are welcoming you into our “family”, so we ask you to do the same for each newcomer. Be open to learning, be strong, be respectful, but most of all be BLESSED.
